Requirements for A Member of the Board

The requirements and process to become a member of the DPPO Board of Directors is specified in detail in the DPPO Bylaws found elsewhere on this site.

The following is a summary. The Bylaws should be referred to for complete details.

Anyone who joins the Board should be at least 18 years old and a Member of the DPPO, or their immediate family.  There are typically seven Board members, but in no event should there be less than five.

Each Director is elected at the annual meeting for a period of two years to fill any vacancies.  In order to ensure continuity in the Board of Directors, where possible, four Directors are elected in one year followed by the election of three Directors in the following year.

Anyone seeking to stand as a candidate at the Annual General Meeting for the position of Director for any upcoming vacancies on the Board of Directors should provide written notice of their intention to stand using the form Schedule B provided to the Secretary at least 2 weeks prior to the Annual General Meeting.   Any person seeking to stand as a candidate for the position of Director must be present at the Annual General Meeting. Each candidate for the position of Director can address the annual meeting for a few minutes.

The election to the Directors is by majority vote of the Members present or by proxy at the Annual General Meeting.

The Board then elects officers from among its board members, and typically meets monthly between Victoria Day and Thanksgiving.
